The Pender Harbour Ocean Discovery Station (PODS) dive cleanup last weekend at Irvines Landing netted quite a catch. “With the help of a team of divers, we hauled out 949 lbs. of ocean waste from the bay,” said event coordinator Evan Guiton. The haul consisted of bottles, tires, fish nets, batteries, metal and plastic debris and boat parts. “While this was something to certainly be proud of, the divers noted that they ‘didn’t even make a dent’ in the trash sitting on the ocean floor of Joe Bay,” Guiton said.
