Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Dec. 9 to 16:
On Monday, Dec. 16 at approximately 5:30 p.m., a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian occurred at the intersection of Teredo Street and Trail Avenue, Sechelt. The vehicle driver was attempting to make a left turn onto Trail when he struck the pedestrian in the middle of the crosswalk. The driver, who was not impaired, remained on the scene while the seriously injured pedestrian was taken to hospital by Emergency Health Services. The matter is still under investigation.
Dangerous Driving
• On Dec. 10, Emergency Health Services staff reported a vehicle tailgating an ambulance that was driving Code Three north on Highway 101 in Davis Bay. Police located the vehicle in Selma Park and initiated a traffic stop with the “N” driver who said he didn’t know he was doing anything illegal. Witnesses had also reported the suspect vehicle passing on a solid line to overtake other vehicles that had yielded for the emergency vehicle. The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without consideration and failing to display “N.” The matter has been referred to ICBC.
Porch Pirate Theft
• On Dec. 10, a Coast resident reported a “porch pirate” after his security camera captured an unknown female stealing a parcel from outside his residence in the 5900 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt. The suspect is described as a heavy set Caucasian female in her twenties with long blonde hair wearing a blue ski jacket, pink shirt and green backpack. The file is still under investigation. Theft
• On Dec. 11 between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., a suspect cut out and stole a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked in the 600 block of Dougall Road, Gibsons. Overnight on Dec. 10, a suspect cut out and stole a catalytic converter off a vehicle parked in a parking lot on School Road near Fletcher Road, Gibsons. Anyone with any information about these thefts and mischief or any of the similar incidents recently is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-8434.
• Sometime between December 5 and 12, a suspect pried a lock and crossbar off a door to gain entry to a boat that had been moored on a dock in Selma Park. The suspect stole a pair of Maui Jim brand brown and gold sunglasses and a clear bag containing an orange flare pistol and approximately 30 shells. No other theft or damage was reported. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-8452.
• On Dec. 11, a suspect, described as an older male in a large green jacket, grabbed a pair of work boots from a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, and fled the premises without paying for them. Police are reviewing surveillance video in an attempt to identify the suspect. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-8459.
• Sometime between Dec. 13 and 16, a suspect or suspects cut a lock off a Seacan container on a job site in the 5100 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, and stole a large number of tools including saws, drills, air nailers, and fall arrest gear. Almost all of the tools were marked with the company name, West Coast Log Homes, as well as an inventory number. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-8555.
• On Dec. 14, staff at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, reported two female suspects caught on surveillance video. One female suspect is seen switching out her old shoes with a pair of new shoes, and then stuffing unpaid for items down her pants. The second female is seen taking a box of shoes off the shelf and when staff checked the same spot later, found an empty shoebox. Police are attempting to identify the suspects. The file is still under investigation.
Multiple Motor Vehicle Act Infractions
• On Dec. 12, a witness reported a group of people consuming alcohol and smoking cannabis from a bong in a vehicle travelling on the Langdale-bound ferry. Police located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop shortly after it left the terminal. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test and determined not to be impaired. However, the driver did not possess a valid driver’s licence and was a vehicle impound candidate for a previous infraction so he was issued unlicensed prohibited driver documents and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. One of the passengers was served a violation ticket for cannabis consumption in a vehicle. Police also seized a small amount of cannabis and a number of alcoholic beverages.
Attempted Theft
• Around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 15, a witness noticed two males wearing balaclavas at an address in the 5200 block of Yacht Road, Sechelt, trying to hook up a trailer to their dark-coloured GMC pickup truck. The witness shouted at the two suspects who fled the scene without the trailer. It was later noted that the suspects had cut the lock off the trailer, but no other damage or theft was reported. Anyone with any information about this or other recent trailer thefts is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-8534.
Found Property
• On Dec. 11, a phone that had been found on a transit bus the day before was turned in. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference police file 2019-8431.
• On Dec. 11, an adult bike was found in the 6200 block of Baillie Road, Sechelt. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2019-8443.
Impaired Driving
• On Dec. 14, police initiated a traffic stop with a suspected impaired driver in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. The driver, who was displaying signs of possible intoxication from alcohol, was given a roadside alcohol screening test. After two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
