On June 30, the sandcastle competition brought out everyone for a fantastic day in Davis Bay including the newly formed Davis Bay Parkway Society (DBPS), who were busy recruiting members for their advocacy group.

Many people stopped by to find out what the group was planning and most of those folks signed up as card-carrying members.

The core group who led the petition to stop Highway 101 widening in Davis Bay last summer, who are the steering committee behind this advocacy group, were very pleased with the outcome of the membership drive. Lockie Brock, Douglas Reid, Sue Adams, and Joyce and Bill Hubbs, were in attendance throughout the weekend, along with other members of the DBPS, and had the opportunity to share the DBPS charter with residents and non-residents alike.

"Membership in the DBPS has passed the 200 mark, with new members signing up everyday, creating a strong, united voice that will help to ensure the ongoing protection, maintenance and enhancement of the Davis Bay Parkway area," stated a press release from the steering committee.

The steering committee recently sent a letter to the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure and to the mayor and council of the District of Sechelt informing them of the official formation and focus of the group which is to establish the proposed parkway as an identifiable entity in official government documentation; to observe and appropriately react to present and planned activities for that area; and, to provide and present comments, suggestions, critiques, ideas, concepts, etc., that will serve to enhance the physical, social and economic aspects of this picturesque stretch of the Sunshine Coast's landscape.

The steering committee also met with Emanuel Machado, manager of special projects with the District on Aug. 5, and agreed to work together when and where they can on various projects within the Davis Bay Parkway area.
