Organizers are hoping Halfmoon Bay residents will come out to a public forum March 10 to help formulate the region's official community plan (OCP).
The forum will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at Halfmoon Bay Elementary School's gymnasium.
The Sunshine Coast Regional District's (SCRD) planning department hopes residents will contribute their thoughts on the four pillars of development: environmental, social, economic and land use.
Contributions from residents will help form the basis for the OCP, a guiding document for future land-use decisions.
"One hundred people is definitely our minimum goal," said SCRD planner Andrew Allen. "The advisory group, they want to know they're on the right track."
Unlike past OCP discussions in 1990 and 2001, organizers are hoping that a new method of public engagement will help spur deeper thinking into what residents see for the future of Halfmoon Bay.
The public forum will take the appearance of four sessions, one dealing with each of the pillars of development and planning.
Residents are invited to participate in all four, to not only learn more about their community, but to contribute to its future development, Allen said.
"We really want to include the audience," he said. "Rather than the SCRD sort of dictating terms, this is a real collaborative effort."
Each session will take approximately 30 minutes. While Allen said he expects some people to be more interested in environmental concerns and others economic, the planners are hoping residents will participate in all four.
Halfmoon Bay director Garry Nohr described it as a "visioning exercise," one that will help the community meet their neighbours, while also sharing their vision of the region's future.
The resulting OCP will play a crucial role in development decisions that could affect commerce, marine use, resorts and affordable housing.
Child care will be made available for young families who want to participate in the event.
People speaking to various issues will have their views recorded.
