With Stage 4 water restrictions that prohibit outdoor water use declared Aug. 31, the District of Sechelt has opened its non-potable water station to the public.
The station is located at 51731 Ebbtide St., near the corner of Ebbtide Street and Trail Avenue. Look for signs indicating which gates to drive through to access the tap. To avoid lengthy lineups people are asked to fill only a few buckets at a time.
“The District of Sechelt will do what we can to assist our citizens by providing this non-potable water for their gardens to help mitigate the impacts of this serious problem,” said Sechelt Mayor Bruce Milne in a release.
The water is for residential use only and can be accessed Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The water is not safe to drink or bathe in but can be used for watering vegetables and flowers. The water is sourced from groundwater and is used by Parks staff to water flower baskets and for other outdoor water uses.
“I am disappointed that we are, once again, at Stage 4 water restrictions due in part to climate change and in part to simply not having resolved our serious water storage challenge,” Milne said.
