A home in the 5200 block of Taylor Crescent in Halfmoon Bay was destroyed by fire Sunday morning.
Sunshine Coast RCMP said they were called out to assist after the fire was reported around 8:38 a.m. and firefighters had already arrived on the scene.
According to RCMP, there were two buildings on the property, connected by a wooden walkway, and it was the building on the rock promontory – the main residence – that caught fire.
There was no one in the home at the time and no one was injured.
Halfmoon Bay Fire Chief Ryan Daley said the fire was too far along by the time firefighters arrived for crews to save any of the structure, and the fire department concentrated on containing the fire to keep it from spreading to nearby buildings.
He also said firefighters had to return to the scene around 4 p.m. that afternoon to deal with a small brush fire which was likely started by embers from the house fire.
Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to nearby homes.
RCMP said there was nothing suspicious about the cause and the investigation is in the hands of the Halfmoon Bay Fire Department.
Daley said the investigation is ongoing and the cause, for now, is listed as unknown.
