Three Orca class Royal Canadian Navy training ships were moored in Gibsons overnight on Feb. 17.
They were in the area performing officer training and stayed only the one night, Katelyn Moores, Naval public affairs staff officer, said. “Their primary role is to provide realistic training for Royal Canadian Navy sailors – things such as navigation and ship handling – and they can also perform coastal patrols and assist with search and rescue operations,” Moores said.
After departing Gibsons, the vessels were scheduled to continue on with their training in B.C. coastal waters before eventually returning to Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, their home port.
