Ministry responds to sign obstruction

Overgrown brush obstructing signs on Highway 101 is being dealt with by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure this week.

Overgrown brush obstructing signs on Highway 101 is being dealt with by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure this week.

Don Legault, area manager of roads on the Sunshine Coast, said two mowers are currently out clearing roadsides and signs along the highway have been cleared by hand.

"Safety is a top priority for the ministry," Legault said, noting the unusually wet spring and summer has caused a longer growing season this year.

Crews are responding with extra mowing, however one mower broke down in Elphinstone for a short time on Monday.

"But they're back working on it again now and they'll be through the Roberts Creek area probably within the next week," Legault told Coast Reporter Aug. 9.

The area between Sechelt and Pender Harbour has now all been cleared and Legault expects the remaining mowing to be done soon.

"They should probably be done within the next week and a half and then they'll get back on the side roads in the Roberts Creek area," Legault added.
