The infinity flag of the Métis Nation was raised this week at Sechelt and Gibsons municipal halls.

Nov. 16 was Louis Riel Day, marking the anniversary of Riel’s execution in 1885.

Vancouver Métis Citizens Society (MCS) president Ron Paradis said this week that local governments on the Sunshine Coast have been leaders in recognizing the day.

George and Terry Goulet of the MCS added that 2016 has been a significant year for Métis, because of the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision acknowledging that Métis are an aboriginal people under Canadian law in the same way as First Nations and Inuit.
