The first non-incumbent candidate has publicly announced his candidacy for Gibsons council in the Nov. 19 municipal election.
Hammy McClymont, a resident of Gibsons since 2006 made the announcement on Tuesday morning.
"I was present when Wayne Rowe declared his candidacy for mayor on Saturday, Sept. 24 and I really liked what he had to say about the qualities he believes candidates should have, as well as his approach to developing policy and finding solutions," said McClymont.
Since retiring from his job with the Gibsons Community Initiatives Association (now Best Coast Initiatives) at the end of 2008, McClymont has attended most meetings of Gibsons council and has reported on them through the "Gibsons Gold" website. The experience has prompted McClymont to offer his candidacy.
"I believe Wayne Rowe will provide the kind of leadership Gibsons needs," McClymont said. "It would be a privilege to serve with him, so I'm stepping up to give it a try."
Since coming to the Sunshine Coast, McClymont has served on the board of Community Futures, and led the Spirit of BC Committee in presenting "The Journey of the Spirit Pole" in 2008 and has worked with the District of Sechelt on the Sechelt Torch Relay event in 2010. He is a member of the Sechelt Airport Advisory Committee, the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club and the Sechelt Rusty Cranks hockey club.
Previously, McClymont spent nearly 40 years managing performing arts organizations and both international and agricultural fairs. He has a BA in history and theatre from Dalhousie University.
