About 300 people took advantage of a chance to see how work is coming along at the Gibsons Public Market’s (GPM) Nicholas Sonntag Marine Education Centre on Sept. 2.
The Marine Education Centre is the last part of the Public Market to be developed following its official opening in April.
The centre will display marine life from the Howe Sound region, and the society set up in March to run the centre will also support conservation efforts in the region.
The centre’s giant three-storey fish tank remains empty for the time being, but several of the smaller tanks have received their first inhabitants.
GPM’s Nancy Grenier said they were thrilled with the long weekend event, which is the first in what’s being called a “phased opening.”
The centre has also been looking for volunteers, and Grenier said they are hoping to hear from interested people of all ages. Contact the Public Market for information: 604-886-8814.
