Gibsons council has approved an encroachment agreement that Town officials say should settle the issues around parking at the Gibsons Marina.

A report from chief administrative officer Emanuel Machado said the marina, owned by George developer Klaus Fuerniss, has withdrawn its application for a development variance permit to reduce on-site parking. The marina has also cancelled plans to apply to the Town to charge for parking, over-and-above the fee it’s allowed to charge under the terms of its lease agreement.

Machado also said the marina is issuing refunds to those who’ve already paid a $150 fee for a 2018 parking permit.

The encroachment agreement gives the marina an easement allowing it to use the Town’s portions of Bay and Prowse roads for designated parking. Machado said the arrangement allows for dedicated parking for both the Gibsons Public Market and the Outrigger Club, “formalizing” an arrangement that already exists in practice.
