The District of Sechelt’s E-Town Hall about the budget was poorly attended, but Mayor Bruce Milne encourages more residents to weigh in this month.
There were just three people in the audience for the Feb. 27 E-Town Hall that was also broadcast live via the district’s YouTube channel.
About eight people tuned in live online but the feed dropped after only about 35 minutes. First the video stopped working, then the sound.
It took about five minutes for district staff to get the YouTube back up and running – however, the video feed never did return, only the audio.
More money for audio-visual upgrades is an ask in the draft 2017-21 financial plan and budget, which seeks to raise taxes and fees for the average homeowner in Sechelt (with a house connected to sewer) by $255 this year. An average home in Sechelt not connected to sewer will be charged about $82 more in taxes and fees this year under the draft budget.
Milne said he hopes more community members will have a look at the draft financial plan in its entirety at www.sechelt.ca and then send in their comments, questions and suggestions to the district via the online feedback form, by email at [email protected] or in person at the district office, 5797 Cowrie St.
“We will keep the input form live and will continue to respond to items received up to the time the budget is adopted,” Milne said.
Adoption of the budget is slated for May 12.
