Members of the shíshálh Nation were honoured guests at the community event. Pictured ready to board the bus for a tour of the site are (from left): Gladys Joe, Landon Dixon, Leah Julius, Travis Anderson (Lehigh mine manager), Selina August (shíshálh Councillor), Joachim Pierre (Lehigh employee), shíshálh Chief Warren Paull, Rita Poulson, Page Poulson, Andy Johnson Jr. (qwamstut coodinator), and Nick Sawchuk (Lehigh employee).

Lehigh Materials in Sechelt held its annual Open House – aka Big Digger Day – on Sept. 9, and hundreds of folks came out to share a free barbecue, climb on the massive machinery, enjoy face painting, a bouncy castle and a giant sand pile, explore the informative display booths and take a tour of the mine operations. The giant gravel mine (one of the largest in Canada) hosts this event each year, always a popular day of family fun.
