Julia Denholm, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Capilano University, is now also the new dean at CapU’s Sunshine Coast campus.

Denholm assumed the role Dec. 15, 2015 upon the retirement of Jean Bennett, who served as dean of the campus for 11 years.

“I see so much potential on the Sunshine Coast,” said Denholm, who lives here part time. “I’m excited to continue to work with community partners to expand programming that responds to student and community demand.”

Denholm began her post-secondary career as a sessional lecturer in English at UBC, where she completed her post-secondary degrees. She taught English and Communications at Langara College and served as a long-time member of the Faculty Association executive, English department chair, and ultimately division chair in Humanities.

Denholm came to Capilano University as acting dean of Arts and Sciences in January 2014 and was officially appointed to the position the following July. In May 2015, Denholm completed her PhD in Educational Studies at UBC.

Denholm divides her time between Vancouver and Sechelt. She is a passionate reader, a member of the Vancouver Sun’s book club panel and a new motorcycle owner (she is learning to ride so she can be first on and first off of the ferry).

“Julia has deep roots on the Sunshine Coast and is a terrific representative for the region,” said Capilano University president Kris Bulcroft.
