Sunshine Coast RCMP are asking for information after a cyclist was seriously injured on the Sunshine Coast Highway near Wakefield Road in Sechelt around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17.
Police and paramedics were called after a passerby noticed the 49-year-old male lying on the shoulder of the Sunshine Coast Highway. Police believe the man had been cycling north on the highway when he was struck by a vehicle and possibly run over. He was transported to Sechelt Hospital before being airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital with serious leg injuries.
The man’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
“Based on the nature of the male’s injuries, we believe the male was hit by a passing vehicle,” said Const. Harrison Mohr with Sunshine Coast RCMP. “We are asking anyone with additional information to call us, in order to assist investigators in determining what happened.”
