School District No. 46 has scheduled information sessions next week for its Youth Train in Trades Programs.
The school district offers the programs in partnership with Vancouver Island University (VIU) and the Industry Training Authority (ITA – www.itabc.ca) to give students the ability to begin training in a certified trade while still in secondary school.
Students complete their work under the supervision of a School District Red Seal certified instructor and a Vancouver Island University Instructor towards their Level 1 certification.
We are currently taking applications for the following trades: Auto Service Technician, Carpenter and Professional Cook.
The Ministry of Education recognizes this program provides a valuable transition for students as they move into the working world.
The Youth Train in Trades Programs will run annually according to student demand.
Eligible students are from grades 10 through 12 and now include students in the year after graduation.
Parent information sessions will take place: Wednesday, March 7 at Chatelech Secondary School Library 7 p.m., and Thursday, March 8. at Elphinstone Secondary School Library, 7 p.m.
