The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) has approved a 50 per cent increase to the boarding fee for impounded dogs – to $30 a day, up from $20.
The SPCA provides the impound service for the SCRD and requested the increase to reflect the costs of providing care for impounded dogs.
In requesting the fee increase, the SPCA noted there has been a “sharp incline in behavioural needs of dogs in care, which increases the cost of providing the service.”
The proposed cost compares with the cost of private kennel services, the SCRD board was told.
They also learned that the number of dogs being impounded is fewer thanks to social media, which connects owners and lost pets in an expedient fashion.
