Throughout December, Port Moody's Parkside Brewery is donating 100 per cent of proceeds from its Cask for a Cause campaign to B.C. flood relief.

Lifting holiday spirits in more ways than one.

Parkside Brewery is continuing a cause it's supported since mid-November after several atmospheric river events caused massive flooding in B.C. communities like Abbotsford and Merritt.

Dubbed 'Cask for a Cause,' the Port Moody business has received an overwhelming response to its latest winter-themed concoctions every Wednesday in December thus far as 100 per cent of the proceeds are going towards efforts to help those displaced and impacted by the floods.

"The devastation was so visceral and close to home that we felt it was impossible not to act," said Parkside spokesperson Travis McLean in an interview with the Tri-City News.

"And while our Tap Takeover event was the main fundraiser on that front, we felt that this cask fundraiser was a great way to keep the initiative front of mind throughout the Holidays."

Last month, Parkside almost potted $5,000 over a three-day period from what was called a 'Tap Takeover.'

It partnered with 10 others to put their brews on tap between Nov. 19 and 21, in which $2 from every pint and flight, as well as $1 from every glass, went directly to BC Flood Relief and divide funds across the Fraser Valley.

This included (in alphabetical order):

  • Four Winds Brewing Co.
  • House of Funk Brewing Co.
  • Neighbourhood Brewing

McLean hopes the public can help match last month's proceeds as the money is going to the same initiative known as This Is My Locality.

"We would just like to add as much as we can on top of the $4,826 from November," he said.

"We just want to thank the surrounding community for their incredible support of our fundraising efforts. Your generosity continues to warm our beer-loving hearts!"

McLean explains the latest Cask for a Cause beer is Santa's Little Helper Mango Lychee — a bright India session ale with tropical notes of mango and a light cryptohop profile.

The first two were Santa Steve’s Chocolate Pomegranate Stout and the Ginger Snap Pale Ale.
