A Garden Bay man is facing up to 20 years in prison after being convicted of wire and mail fraud and theft in a Washington state courtroom.

According to the Seattle Times, Bradley Garner, 51, allegedly acted with his half-brother in stealing millions of dollars of United States military surplus equipment including light planes, heavy trucks, computers and boats in January of this year.

Sunshine Coast RCMP aided in the recovery of two boats allegedly stolen by the brothers and stored on Garner's vacation property and at the government dock in Porpoise Bay in December 2008.

RCMP Const. Cathleen Falebrinza liaised with the Navy Criminal Inves-tigation Service to secure the boats. She said, at the time, it appeared the brothers were planning to keep the boats for recreation.

Garner lives in Cali-fornia, but is a Canadian citizen.

Garner's half brother Steven Bradley Smith, a former Federal Aviation Admin-istration employee, allegedly exploited access to a computer system that inventories government property to get access to the stolen goods. He is scheduled to face trial in October.

Garner is scheduled for sentencing in September.
