Grants available for Canada 150 projects

Sunshine Coast Community Foundation

In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday next year, the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation (SCCF) has $30,000 to contribute to local projects that “bring out the best Canada has to offer for the sesquicentennial.”

The SCCF will be awarding up to four projects with grants as part of the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th – a grant program made possible through collaboration between Canada’s 191 Community Foundations and the federal government.

Projects must be based in Canada and work toward the fund’s main objectives to:

• Encourage participation in community activities and events to mark Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation.

• Inspire a deeper understanding about the people, places and events that shape our country and our communities.

• Build vibrant and healthy communities with the broadest possible engagement of all Canadians, including indigenous peoples; groups that reflect our cultural diversity; youth; and official language minorities.

In addition, the SCCF is also looking for projects that address issues identified in their most recent Vital Signs report. A full list of grant criteria is available online at www.sccfoundation.com under Community Fund for Canada’s 150th.

Eligible projects that receive funds must match those funds through in-kind or cash contributions equal to the value of the grant, and grant money must be spent by Jan. 31, 2018.

The Community Fund for Canada’s 150th Grant is open to all organizations that can issue official donation receipts and receive gifts from registered charities.

Letters of intent can be submitted via email to [email protected] until Nov. 17 at midnight.

Selected applicants will be contacted and asked to submit a full application by Dec. 16.
