Goldsmith-Jones given new secretary post, Simons to continue role in shadow cabinet

West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky MP Pam Goldsmith-Jones will be continuing her work as a parliamentary secretary, but the Prime Minister has assigned her to a different minister following a cabinet shuffle in January.

Goldsmith-Jones is now parliamentary secretary for Minister of International Trade François-Philippe Champagne. She had been working with Foreign Affairs Minister Stephane Dion, who was replaced by Chrystia Freeland in the January shuffle.

Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons, meanwhile, will continue his role as the voice on coastal economic development and Community Living BC in NDP leader John Horgan’s shadow cabinet.

Horgan changed some MLAs’ duties ahead of the legislative session set to open on Feb. 14, including giving Coquitlam-Maillardville MLA Selina Robinson responsibility for mental health and addictions, in addition to being the party’s representative for seniors and local government.

In announcing the changes Horgan said, “At a time when Christy Clark has failed to do what is necessary to get a handle on the overdose crisis that people in our province are grappling with, Selina Robinson will fight for better services to treat those who have been left behind and ignored.”
