Glacier "Owns the Podium" at provincial awards

Glacier Media Group is thrilled to announce its newspaper winners from the BC and Yukon Community Newspaper Association's Ma Murray Awards held April 30 in Vancouver.

Glacier Media Group is thrilled to announce its newspaper winners from the BC and Yukon Community Newspaper Association's Ma Murray Awards held April 30 in Vancouver.

In the newspaper excellence awards, newspapers are judged for the entire package with particular emphasis on quality of journalism and design.

Glacier is delighted with a gold finish for the Whistler Question followed by a silver finish for the Squamish Chief in their circulation category. Coast Reporter grabbed silver in the next category up.

Individual awards were received in several categories as well, with Kamloops Daily News garnering seven awards, leading our B.C. Newspaper operation in trips to the podium.

Amelie Legare (Whistler Question) took silver in the ad design collaborative category for publications with under 25,000-circulation.

In ad design, Barry Gaines (Kamloops Daily News) took bronze in circulation over 25,000, while Debbie Galinski (Powell River Peak) took silver and Ashley Doyle (Coast Reporter) took bronze in the circulation under 25,000-category.

Wendy Brown (Powell River Peak) was awarded gold for her efforts in the cartoonist award.

Coast Reporter finished with a bronze in the classified award.

Frank Peebles (Prince George Citizen) took gold with Mel Rothenburger (Kamloops Daily News) taking silver in the editorial award.

Brent Richter scored gold for Coast Reporter in the environmental initiative award.

Kyle Wells (Powell River Peak) got a bronze for feature photo award, B&W, circulation under 25,000 and grabbed his second medal, silver, in the feature photo award, colour, circulation under 25,000. Richter won bronze in that category.

Kamloops Daily News' Cam Fortems scored bronze in the investigative journalism award competition.

Jen Poohachoff (Kamloops Daily News) cashed in for gold in the newspaper promotion award.

Mike Youds (Kamloops Daily News) grabbed a gold of his own in the outdoor recreation-writing award.

Cathie Roy (Coast Reporter) won silver for their Coast Life, lifestyle magazine in the special publications award.

Mel Rothenburger (Kamloops Daily News) took gold in the special sections award, circulation over 25,000.

Murray Mitchell (Kamloops Daily News) finished with a bronze in the sports photo award, circulation 25,000 and over category.

Kamloops Daily News scored silver for the website and on-line innovation award.
