Gibsons seniors surveyed on hot lunch program

Harmony Hall

The Gibsons Seniors Society is surveying seniors in the Gibsons area to determine whether there is enough interest to start a hot lunch program at Harmony Hall.

A very successful lunch program is currently offered at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre, but not everyone can travel to Sechelt to take advantage of it.

The lunch program would employ a professional chef to cook nutritious meals from fresh ingredients in Harmony Hall’s commercial kitchen. Volunteers would assist with set-up, serving and cleanup. The chef could also prepare and freeze meals for seniors to take home.

The survey is available online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/2LQHNXR, or on the Seniors Society website at www.gibsonsseniors.com. Paper copies will be available at the group’s table in Sunnycrest Mall on Nov. 2 and at Harmony Hall from Oct. 28. Paper copies should be returned to Harmony Hall (686 Harmony Lane, Gibsons). The survey closes Nov. 6.

This survey is part of a feasibility study funded by a grant from the BC Rural Dividend fund. If there is sufficient interest and a business plan shows that a hot lunch program is financially viable, it could start in the spring of 2018.

The Gibsons Seniors Society has about 300 members and organizes regular activities at the hall including table tennis, dancing, tai chi, bridge, and birthday lunches.
