The Town of Gibsons has chosen its new director of finance.
The Town announced this week that Dave Douglas will be joining the municipality’s management team to replace Ian Poole, who is retiring after 25 years with the Town.
The new job will be a homecoming of sorts for Douglas, who has more than 17 years experience in municipal finance, including stints with Powell River, and most recently as manager of finance in Ucluelet.
“I’m very much looking forward to working with the town’s council, staff and residents to provide effective financial leadership, so that we can achieve our community’s goals. Additionally, I grew up in Gibsons, so it is wonderful to return here with my family after many years away,” Douglas said in a release announcing his appointment.
Poole, who started with the Town as deputy treasurer in 1992, will be leaving effective Dec. 19.
“I feel extremely fortunate to have spent most of my career at the Town of Gibsons,” Poole said.
“Over the past 25 years, I’ve worked with numerous, hard-working councils, staff and senior managers. They’ve all been extremely supportive of me, both personally and professionally, which has made coming to work a genuine pleasure.”
Mayor Wayne Rowe said the Town has benefitted from Poole’s leadership.
“Gibsons has established a long track record of fiscal responsibility, thanks largely to the steady financial guidance provided by Ian. We certainly wish him all the best in retirement.”
