In support of Safe Boating Awareness Week, the Sunshine Coast Power and Sail Squadron is offering free recreational vessel courtesy checks on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gibsons Marina.
The courtesy check itself takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes and consists of a visual check of your boat’s safety equipment (personal, fire, signaling and navigational) according to the size of your boat and the DOT’s small vessel regulations, as well as to ensure the required documentation is also on board (boat registration or licence and an operator’s PCOC card). A two-part form is completed with one part given to the boater and the other sent to Transport Canada.
