BC Ferries has wrapped up its experiment with loading foot passengers last at Langdale terminal.
Traditionally, foot passengers and cyclists have been allowed to board via the main car deck before any vehicles were loaded. The one-week trial, from July 12 to 18, was an effort to see if changing the way foot passengers boarded could speed up the turnaround time for busy sailings.
Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries says the company is still evaluating the feedback and talking to the crews about what worked and what didn’t.
Reaction on social media, and the Coast Reporter letters page, has been largely negative with people complaining about the difficulty of manoeuvring luggage, baby strollers and bicycles between the parked vehicles and having to stand in the waiting area inhaling exhaust fumes while vehicles loaded.
