The field is now set for the Nov. 15 municipal election β and itβs a field of candidates who come from different backgrounds, political stripes and experience.
Following the 4 p.m. deadline on Friday, Oct. 10, election returning officers from the District of Sechelt, Town of Gibsons, Sunshine Coast Regional District and School District No. 46 each released the final list of candidates.
In the District of Sechelt, there are three candidates for mayor β incumbent John Henderson, along with Bruce Milne and Christine Younghusband.
For council there are 15 candidates including current councillors Alice Lutes, Tom Lamb, Darnelda Siegers and Mike Shanks along with Jon Bell, former mayor and councillor Darren Inkster, Norm Blair, former councillor Alice Janisch, Terry Karkabe, Noel Muller, former councillor Ed Steeves, Christine Stefanik, former councillor Keith Thirkell, Michael Turner and Doug Wright.
In the Town of Gibsons, there are also three candidates for mayor β incumbent Wayne Rowe, along with Suzanne Senger and Roger Swickis.
For council, there are nine candidates including incumbent councillors Dan Bouman, Lee Ann Johnson and Charlene San Jenko, along with former mayor Barry Janyk, Katie Janyk, Stafford Lumley, Greig Soohen, Jeremy Valeriote and former school board chair and current trustee Silas White.
For the Sunshine Coast Regional District, Area A director Frank Mauro has been acclaimed in Egmont/Pender Harbour as no other candidate came forward. The same can be said in Halfmoon Bay as Area B director Garry Nohr has been acclaimed.
There will be a new director for Area D Roberts Creek as current director Donna Shugar is not running. The four candidates running for her seat include Hans Penner, Mark Lebbell, David Kelin and Barbara Hague.
In Area E, Elphinstone, incumbent director Lorne Lewis will be challenged by Robert Corlett and Thomas Murray and Area F, West Howe Sound will see a new director as Lee Turnbull is not seeking re-election. The candidates for her seat include Ian Winn, Ron Girad and Peter Aelbers.
In School District No. 46, incumbents Dave Mewhort and Christine Younghusband have been acclaimed for the two trustee seats in Sechelt. In Gibsons, White is running along with Lee Haffner and Pam Ruth for the one Gibsons seat. In rural area two where three seats are available, incumbents Betty Baxter, Lori Dixon and Greg Russell are running alongside newcomers Sarah Bradley and Allen Stevenson.
And in rural area one, incumbent Lori Pratt has been acclaimed.
