BC Ferries has announced it will not be increasing fares on the Langdale to Horseshoe Bay route or any of the so-called minor and northern routes on April 1, as anticipated.
Ferry Commissioner Gord Macattee set the price caps for the current contract (which started in April 2016) at 1.9 per cent per year, but the ferry company said last week that it will only increase fares on the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay (Nanaimo), Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, and Tsawwassen to Duke Point routes.
The 1.9 per cent increase on those routes will only apply to vehicles. Passenger fares will remain the same.
BC Ferries is also lowering the reservation fee. It will drop to $10 from $15 for travellers who book at least seven days ahead. Reservations made from six to one day prior to the sailing will decrease from $18.50 to $17. And the charge for same-day reservations will go from $22 to $21.
The cost of a minimum top-up for the Experience Card, meanwhile, is being held at the current level: $115 for vehicle and/or passenger and $65 for passenger-only.
