BC Ferries was running a modified schedule Friday on the Langdale-Horseshoe Bay route “due to adverse weather conditions anticipated this evening and in order to proactively position our vessels for tonight and tomorrow,” as the ferry system copes with cancellations on other routes as a result of weather.
Sailings between Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo resumed just after 3 p.m., but service between Powell River and Comox was suspended as well as sailings from Powell River to Texada Island.
The major routes between Tsawwassen and Vancouver Island were also disrupted for most of Friday morning and the early afternoon.
Although the Sunshine Coast is not under any weather advisories, strong winds and intermittent rain have been moving through the area, and a downed tree was being blamed for a power outage that cut service to more than 2,700 BC Hydro customers from Wilson Creek to the Roberts Creek-Elphinstone border.
As of 3:15 p.m. Friday, Hydro had crews on site, but no estimate of when the power might be restored.
