After facing many challenges with the District of Sechelt, local mobile food vendor Feastro the Rolling Bistro, has applied for a license to operate at Winegarden Park in Gibsons.
The mobile food truck, run by co-owners Paul Fenton and Steve Myddleton, was a fixture in Davis Bay last summer. Having put forth a presentation to Sechelt council for review on their mobile food vendor license, Fenton said it seems they [the District of Sechelt] do not want to make a decision. He also cited Sechelt's "lottery system" for mobile food vendors as being too problematic for Feastro.
"Someone brought up Gibsons, and they acted quickly. The things they addressed are what we bought up with Sechelt," said Fenton.
As for the location of Winegarden Park, Fenton said that suggestion came from the Town of Gibsons as a way to continue vitalizing the harbour area and Lower Gibsons.
Fenton was quick to add that Davis Bay 'is equally as beautiful' and they would love to work with the District of Sechelt.
"We just want to be somewhere where people want us," he said. "We don't want to be trying to twist people's arms and convince them of the benefits. There is great community spirit on the whole Coast. We'll continue to explore opportunities."
The business, run out of a large purple truck, was filmed for a feature on the Food Network about North America's best street food in September. The feature is set to air this spring.
