The Sunshine Coast Community Foundation has announced the launch of the Marine Rescue Agency Fund to help finance operations of the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM-SAR) stations.
This endowment fund supports all RCM-SAR stations on the Sunshine Coast – Gibsons (Unit 14), Sechelt (Unit 12) and Pender Harbour (Unit 61).
Whether it’s a missing boater, a vessel taking on water, or a person injured and needing help on an isolated island, RCM-SAR volunteers are ready to go wherever, whenever and whatever the weather. The cost of providing this level of service is high. Rigorous training and equipment maintenance is critical. A single, fully equipped vessel can cost up to $800,000.
The power of the fund is in its perpetuity. Only the annual earnings can be spent. Funds are invested to achieve long-term capital growth. This means that the Marine Rescue Agency Fund will benefit the Sunshine Coast forever.
While this new fund will provide long-term sustainability, RCM-SAR also requires ongoing support to meet annual operating costs. Both of these revenue streams are essential. Donations can be made to SC Community Foundation (604-741-7360), or to any of the Sunshine Coast RCM-SAR stations. A tax receipt will be provided.
