Eleven COVID cases reported on Sunshine Coast

Between Aug. 15 and 21, 11 new cases were reported on the Sunshine Coast.

The third week of August saw 11 new cases of COVID-19 reported for the lower Sunshine Coast – the first time local numbers have exceeded 10 cases per week since the second week of May, when 18 cases were reported between May 9 and 15. 

During the same Aug. 15 to 21 time period, Powell River reported two new cases, and Howe Sound had 16.

The previous week, between Aug. 8 and 14, one new case was reported on the Coast.

Between Aug. 17 and 23, the average daily case rate for 100,000 population showed three cases for the Sunshine Coast, and two for Powell River.

The vaccination rate on the Sunshine Coast continues to rise. 

As of Aug. 23, between 50 and 84 per cent of Sunshine Coast residents (not including children under 12 years old) had received their second dose of the vaccine. 

By age category, the vaccination rate for those 12 to 17 was 68 per cent for the first dose and 50 per cent for the second. Between the ages of 18 and 49, 73 per cent of residents received their first dose, and 60 per cent had their second jab. The age range with the highest vaccination coverage is the 50+ category, with 89 per cent for the first dose, and 84 per cent for the second.
