Three more people have thrown their names into the ring for the federal election, as eight candidates were confirmed for the West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country riding.

On Monday, Aug. 30, Independent candidates Terry Grimwood, Chris MacGregor, and Parti Rhinocéros Party’s Gordon Jeffrey joined the list of candidates, which was then confirmed on Sept. 1.

Grimwood and Jeffrey also ran in the 2019 election.

Grimwood, a Sechelt resident and founder of the not-yet-registered Canada Fresh Party, received 159 votes, accounting for 0.2 per cent of the riding’s total votes.

Jeffrey, a Whistler resident who ran for the Rhinoceros Party, received 173 votes or 0.3 per cent in the last federal election. In an email on Aug. 31, Jeffrey told Coast Reporter he is the head of the B.C. Rhinos, but is basically an Independent.

In a press release issued on Aug. 30, MacGregor was described as a Sechelt hospital worker, construction business owner and father of five. He has lived in the riding since 1993.

Prior to the election being called, five candidates had put their names forward. Incumbent MP Patrick Weiler is the Liberal candidate, former MP John Weston is running for the Conservatives, while the Greens’ Mike Simpson and NDP’s Avi Lewis are new names on the ballot. Doug Bebb, running for the People’s Party of Canada, also ran for the party in 2019.
