Seventeen firefighters and three Pender Harbour Volunteer Fire Department fire trucks responded to a call at Coho Marina (12907 Shark Lane) at about 4:30 a.m. on May 1.

Department spokesperson Jim Cameron told Coast Reporter first responders from both department halls in Madeira Park and Garden Bay were on scene for “a couple of hours” addressing a structure fire.

“The fire was pretty much contained within the walls and it was just starting to break through when we arrived on scene," Cameron stated. He said the small contained fire was “pretty straightforward” to fight; “we were able to deal with it with just the water on the trucks."

He said that a BC Emergency Health Services ambulance was also on scene but that there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. He stated no road closures or evacuations of neighbouring properties were required and that the RCMP did not attend the incident while his department was on scene.

Cameron stated he would not speculate on what started the fire and that the department was not investigating the cause. Coast Reporter contacted the Sunshine Coast RCMP Detachment to inquire if they are investigating the incident but has not received a response.
