Driver facing impaired charges after serious accident

Langdale

Shortly after 11 p.m. last Saturday, Jan. 17, paramedics, the Gibsons fire department, and Sunshine Coast RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision on the bypass in Langdale.

When police arrived, they found a newer Dodge SX resting on the concrete barrier, with substantial damage.

“The driver had an odour of liquor on her breath, and other symptoms of consuming liquor, and was arrested for suspected impaired driving,” said Const. Harrison Mohr. “The fire department worked to extricate the driver, before she was taken to hospital for treatment of broken ribs. Due to the driver’s injuries, a blood sample was obtained instead of a breath sample, and she was issued a driving prohibition, as well as a promise to appear in court for the impaired driving charges.”

Mohr said this driver is lucky she did not sustain more serious injuries, and did not hit anyone else.

“This is another reminder of how dangerous drinking and driving really is, and the RCMP encourages everyone to take a stand against impaired driving. It’s just not worth the risk,” he said.
