Driver airlifted after collision

MVA

Shortly before midnight on Sept. 25, emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle collision on the Sunshine Coast Highway near Hill Road in Sechelt.

The vehicle had been southbound on the highway when the driver apparently lost control, and the car collided with a large tree near the roadway. Members of the Sechelt Fire Department had to cut off the roof of the car in order to get the driver out, before she was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital.

The 21-year-old female driver from Sechelt was still in the Intensive Care Unit as of Sept. 29. Sunshine Coast RCMP are investigating whether speed and wet roads may have been factors in the collision.

This location has been identified as a high crash zone. Const. Harrison Mohr with Sunshine Coast RCMP said, “We are working with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to consider safety options in order to help reduce serious collisions in the area.”
