Dog-friendly business campaign launched

Sechelt

The Sechelt and District Chamber of Commerce has partnered with SCC Properties to launch the Dog Friendly Business campaign in Sechelt that will allow residents and visitors to bring their four-legged friends with them while they shop.

The Chamber and SCC Properties are asking for retailers’ support in allowing dogs in their retail space to avoid being left in hot cars during the summer months or alone on the sidewalk, which can lead to a stressful situation for both the pet and the owner.

For a small donation, the Chamber will offer a Dog Friendly Business sticker to be placed in the window of the supporting retailer so dog owners know they are welcome to bring in their dog while they shop.

Cities including Vancouver and Victoria are adopting this policy in order to protect animals from being left in cars during hot months, as it takes only minutes for the inside of a vehicle to reach extreme temperatures. Not only will this eliminate the possibility of a pet being injured but will bring peace of mind to the owners who can enjoy their shopping experience.

If businesses wish to make a donation to the Chamber and receive a Dog Friendly Business sticker, send an email to [email protected] or call 604-885-0662.
