It took an extra $4,500 a month to settle the contract dispute between the District of Sechelt (DOS) and Direct Disposal.
In a press release this week, the DOS noted the monthly contract payments to Direct Disposal for processing recyclable materials have increased from $10,000 a month to $14,500 a month.
“This amount was arrived at by the parties after extensive negotiations and allows Direct Disposal to better cover its costs for the processing of the recyclables,” the press release stated.
“At this time, the district is not intending to levy additional charges to property owners for recycling services in 2016, as the district has funds available to offset the increased costs for the remainder of the year.”
Sechelt will revisit residential garbage and recycling collection fees when developing the 2017 budget. Public discussions on that budget will start in October.
