Directors nix second storey for Gibsons library

SCRD Briefs

At the May 28 regular board meeting, Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) directors amended the 2015 financial plan to include a $20,000 expenditure to develop a scope of work and request for proposals to replace the leaking roof on the Gibsons and District Public Library.

The money will be recovered through taxation in 2016 as “required revenue,” staff stated.

Directors also decided to ditch the idea of adding a second storey at the library after accepting a report that advised against it due to load capacity and building height restrictions in Gibsons.

However, the SCRD does want to see some extra space included upstairs to be used as an office or for storage, and potential builders will be asked to include the space in any roof replacement plans.

Goldmoss

Directors gave second reading to a zoning amendment bylaw that would allow Goldmoss Gallery to operate, with stipulations, out of a home in Roberts Creek.

The proponents, however, did not agree to second reading and said they don’t want the bylaw to move forward to public hearing, according to Andrew Allen, senior planner with SCRD.

“The hearing has been cancelled and next steps have not yet been determined,” Allen told Coast Reporter this week.

Grants in aid

The board approved 51 grants in aid, totalling just over $75,000.

Two groups that received the biggest grants, at $5,000 each, were the Roberts Creek Community Association and the Sunshine Coast Sea Cavalcade Society.

The next biggest grants were $4,000 to the Tetrahedron Outdoor Club and $3,928 to the Pender Harbour Community Club.
