A second public hearing has been scheduled to address short-term rentals in the rural areas of the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD).
The hearing will take place virtually using the video conferencing software Zoom and is scheduled for June 30 at 7 p.m. A link to access the meeting will be provided on the SCRD’s website: scrd.ca/str.
SCRD directors voted to adjust the date at a June 11 board meeting.
The board confirmed this will be the first virtual public hearing to be held on the Sunshine Coast since COVID-19 public health restrictions kicked in. “It’s a meaty subject so it’s going to be interesting to go through this,” said chair Lori Pratt. “Looking forward to the training ahead of time.”
A public hearing took place last June but directors subsequently voted to revise the bylaws to remove references to temporary use permits, triggering the need for a second hearing.
The permits had initially been included in the bylaws to allow for the possibility for offsite operators, but following the first public hearing, directors opted instead to increase fines for non-compliant operators.
Amendments also include some changes to the definition of bed and breakfast, and a definition of “residential use,” among other changes.
The second public hearing was initially scheduled for April, but was delayed due to the impacts of COVID-19.
