Sechelt and District Chamber of Commerce president Kim Darwin has been honoured with a Rising Star Green Globe Award for her work with the B.C. Green Party.
The award is given to Green Party members who are “star volunteers” and nominator Stefan Jonsson said Darwin is just that.
“I feel that she is exceptionally committed to her values, going above and beyond what is expected of her in the functions and duties she takes on,” Jonsson said.
“As the party’s secretary on provincial council, she holds a role that is often undervalued for the central role it plays in keeping the party on level ground. I honestly don’t believe the party would be where it is today without her.”
Darwin said she was surprised to be presented with the award during the B.C. Green Party convention gala dinner held June 4 in Victoria, noting there were many other deserving party members.
“It was really fantastic, but a big surprise,” Darwin said.
She’s been the party’s secretary since 2014 and said she plans to take on a new role with the Green Party next year.
“My goal is actually to run in the next election, although I have yet to go through the nomination process,” Darwin said, noting she “would love to represent our community as MLA for Powell River-Sunshine Coast.”
“It is highly possible that there could be other people in our community who would want to run, which would then prompt a nomination race. So I’m thinking probably in the next couple of months more of those things will come to light.”
