Two structures in Roberts Creek were damaged by fires in the days leading up to Christmas.

On the morning of Dec. 22 crews from the Roberts Creek Volunteer Fire Department extinguished a fire at a home on the 3000 block of Lower Road, caused by a small halogen puck light that burned through a wooden floor at the front of the house.

The crew opened up a wall and section of the floor and contained the fire to a small area underneath the home’s front entranceway. No one was injured.

Three days earlier, crews responded to a garage fire on Lower Road, this time in the 1900 block. Crews arrived within six minutes of the call to find “heavy smoke” pouring from the garage, said Fire Chief Patrick Higgins. The crew forced through an entrance door and extinguished the fire.

The following day’s investigation found the cause to be a “possible electrical short,” said Higgins.

“Make sure that the electrical systems in your house are installed by certified professionals, are permitted and inspected,” he said.
