Contractors prepare the ground on Sept. 1 to install a set of playground equipment that will be accessible for children of all abilities.

When Roberts Creek Elementary School students return next week they’ll have more than new pandemic protocols to look forward to.

Contractors with Nanaimo-based Maxx Contracting were busy installing a new accessible playground in front of the school the week of Aug. 31, with completion expected by Friday.

In March it was announced the school was receiving $105,000 from the province for the installation. It was one of 50 projects funded through the government’s Playground Equipment Program.

“We’re obviously thrilled to be able to enhance the existing playground and provide accessible equipment for students at Roberts Creek Elementary,” said SD46 secretary-treasurer Nicholas Weswick at the time of the announcement.

Accessible playgrounds are designed to function for children of all abilities.
