The Sunshine Coast RCMP and the Halfmoon Bay Community School are teaming up to present a child predator and on-line safety awareness forum.
The presentation will take place on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. at Chatelech Secondary School in Sechelt.
Const. Glen Sherk of the RCMP ICE Unit, a specialized Vancouver-based unit focused on predatory behavior and the exploitation of children, will share a 50-minute multi-media presentation followed by a formal question and answer session and informal refreshment and chat time. The content of the presentation is not appropriate for children under 16 (at the request of the presenter), with no exceptions. As such, childcare will be provided for those who require it.
The focus of the evening is to raise awareness and educate parents, teachers, administration and community members on issues relating to child predators, on-line safety measures and necessary considerations when engaging with social networks such as Facebook, Flicker, etc.
This is a rare opportunity to hear from a working member in this division. Situations specific to the Sunshine Coast may be used where and when appropriate.
Contact Sue Lamb at Halfmoon Bay at 604-885-2177 with questions or to request a presentation in your Grade 11/12 classroom.
