Coast Reporter has once again been nominated for best overall B.C. community newspaper in its circulation class and is also in the running for the best historical story of 2017.
The BC and Yukon Community Newspapers Association announced the finalists for the 2018 Ma Murray Community Newspaper Awards on Feb. 28.
Coast Reporter was nominated for General Excellence in the 6,001 to 13,000 circulation category, along with Alaska Highway News and Whistler-based Pique Newsmagazine.
Reporter Sean Eckford’s “Shíshálh ancestors come to life,” published May 18, 2017, was nominated for the Neville Shanks Memorial Award for Historical Writing.
Eckford’s front-page story showcased the shíshálh Nation exhibit that opened at the Canadian Museum of History and Tems Swiya Museum on July 1 last year. It goes up against entries from the New Westminster Record’s Cornelia Naylor and Powell River Peak’s Jason Schreurs.
Winners will be announced at the Ma Murray 2018 Awards Gala at the River Rock Casino in Richmond on April 28.
