As yet another heat wave descends on the Coast – not a week after the last – local cooling centres are once again available to the public.
Gibsons and Sechelt are set to reach daytime highs of 29 C on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures cooling to a more moderate 26 C Thursday and 25 C Friday.
Air-conditioned space at the Gibsons & Area Community Centre at 700 Park Road will be open 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Space at the Sechelt Aquatic Centre at 5500 Shorncliffe Avenue will be open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. for those needing to get out of the heat.
Both locations provide air conditioning, a place to sit, water to drink and information pamphlets on how to deal with the heat.
Environment Canada has issued a heat warning and reminds residents to drink plenty of water, check on older friends, family and neighbours, seek out cool places and never leave people or pets inside parked vehicles.
