Conservation officers on the Sunshine Coast are still trying to determine if possible charges may be laid in connection with several deer carcasses discarded on a forest service road in the Langdale area last week.
Sunshine Coast RCMP were first notified of the incident just a little over a week ago, and they in turn contacted conservation.
“I responded shortly after RCMP called us, and I found seven carcasses that had meat cloth on them, so that told me they were in fact hunted animals,” said conservation officer Dean Miller. “All the deer still had their four quarters attached with meat. Any hunter in their right mind would not dump that kind of valuable meat in the forest if it had not been rotten.”
Miller said he is still investigating several public tips he has received trying to identify possible suspects and if any charges might be laid under the wildlife act.
“This may or may not be a violation, we just have to see how the investigation plays out,” he said. “No matter what, it is an unfortunate set of circumstances. The overall ethics of someone dumping the deer like this is certainly a bit disturbing.”
