St. Hilda’s by the Sea Anglican Church in Sechelt invites the public to come to a ringing of the bells ceremony at noon on May 31 to recognize the formal close of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and to honour residential school survivors.
The ceremony is being held simultaneously with hundreds of others in communities across Canada this Sunday.
Rev. Clarence Li invites community members to bring bells of their own to St. Hilda’s to ring in unison with the church bell at noon.
Following the ringing of the bells will be a short ceremony.
“This is to mark a significant stage of work being complete. The commission has spent the last five years working and they’re ready to release their final report next week,” Li said.
St. Hilda’s Church also plans to open its doors to the public on the morning of June 2 when the final report will be released and televised.
“We invite those who want to watch the final report to come,” Li said.
The exact time of the June 2 event has not yet been decided. Keep up to date at www.trc.ca or www.sthilda.ca
