Cascadia Party candidate Reuben Richards has been a no-show at recent Powell River-Sunshine Coast all-candidates forums, after being charged with several criminal offences in Powell River.
The charges stem from allegations linked to incidents between April 3 and 15 and include four counts of uttering threats, five counts of criminal harassment, one count of causing a disturbance and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
According to court records, Richards remains in custody, with bail set at $5,000, pending his next court date on Tuesday, May 2.
A Cascadia representative said the party is leaving it to Richards to decide if he’ll continue as a candidate.
Richards has not responded to Coast Reporter’s request for comment.
The Elections BC deadline for candidates to formally withdraw was 8 a.m. April 27.
If a candidate withdraws by the deadline, Elections BC will reprint the ballots if possible, otherwise the name will remain on the ballot and Elections BC will take steps to inform voters that the candidate has withdrawn.
